The city vanished, replaced by a face—pale, sharp-featured, with eyes that seemed to hold galaxies. The woman smiled, but it wasn’t warm. “The one who shattered the boundary. He’s been waiting for you, Elias. He wants the stone. And he will do anything to get it.” The mirror went dark. The stone in Elias’s hand grew hot—too hot. He dropped it, and it clattered to the floor, pulsing with red light. From the corridor behind them, footsteps echoed. Slow. Deliberate. Someone was coming.
