…But the door was sealing. “Go back!” Lily shouted. “You have to—” The light snapped shut. Silence. They stood in the corridor, alone, the doorway gone. The air was still, filled with a soft hum that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere. Lena's grip tightened. “Elias. What happened?” He looked at his palm. The scar was dark, the glow gone. “The door closed,” he said slowly. “But we're still here.” From the far end of the corridor, the oldest one's silhouette began to walk toward them. And behind it, something else moved. Something vast. Something that made the stars shiver. “Lena,” Elias said, his voice barely a whisper. “We need to run.”
