…The sun has slipped lower, painting the leaves in fire and gold. Pip looks up at me, eyes bright. “Well? What now?” I finger the moonstone, my mind swirling with all I’ve seen and all I still want to know. “Now, we find out what it means to be the bridge. And maybe, Pip—just maybe—we’ll find the creature at the heart of the woods.” Pip grins. “Adventure?” I smile, feeling the key and the crown and the love of the woods all around me. “Adventure.” As we head home, the trees whisper my name in voices I’m just beginning to understand. And somewhere, deep in the wood, a promise stirs—a secret, waiting to be found.
