…But it was nothing. Just the wind. Just the night. He led Yasmine back inside, locking the door behind them, and checked on the kids one last time before lying down. Sleep came in fragments, broken by every creak and groan of the old house. And when dawn finally broke, pale and gray through the windows, Chris rose with a single thought burning in his mind. They needed to find others. And they needed to do it before the horde found them. He didn’t know that the survivors they would find were carrying secrets darker than any shambling corpse. He didn’t know that one of them was a murderer, hiding in plain sight. But he would learn. And the lesson would cost him everything.
