…"Lycar," she breathed, her voice a fragile chime that seemed to shatter the oppressive silence. It was the first time she’d spoken my name, the first time she’d acknowledged me directly. "Elara," I replied, my voice rough, unused to uttering anything but grunts of effort or curses of pain. "You know me." She nodded, a slow, almost imperceptible movement. "I know many things. The Wheel… it shows me. It makes me remember. And forget. It is a cruel master." We stood in silence for a moment, the weight of her suffering pressing down on me. I had seen much, endured much, but the sheer, unadulterated sorrow radiating from her was a different kind of torment. It was a primal ache, a lament
