…The snarl from the forest intensified, closer now, laced with a chilling anticipation. The cabin groaned under another violent gust of wind, as if the very woods were trying to tear them apart. But within the small, lamplit space, a fragile alliance had been forged. A human girl, drawn by an insatiable curiosity and an inexplicable love, stood beside a creature of ancient darkness, ready to face whatever horrors the night, and their intertwined destinies, might bring. The choice had been made. Sacrifice, or surrender. Elara had chosen sacrifice. The question that remained, hanging heavy in the air like the scent of pine and fear, was whether that sacrifice would be enough.
