…I picked up the notebook, my hands trembling. I closed it one last time, the worn leather cool against my skin. A fragile smile, born of both pain and profound understanding, touched my lips. Through the blurring tears, I whispered into the vast, empty silence of my room. “Thank you for saving my life, Mia.” There was no answer. There never would be again. But for the first time in sixteen years, the silence didn’t feel like a void. It felt like a goodbye. A peaceful, necessary, and utterly heartbreaking goodbye.
