But the shadows that now stirred in the periphery of my vision suggested that the price for such absolute dominion was far steeper than I had ever conceived. The game had changed, and I was no longer just playing; I was now a target. The artifact had granted my wish, but it had also illuminated a path I was not prepared to walk.
