…They were being led into the heart of something unknown, a place where the beauty of Venice had been a cruel, deceptive facade. The sunlit canals and the promise of adventure had dissolved, replaced by this subterranean labyrinth. Anya forced herself to breathe, to push back the rising tide of panic. Her analytical mind, the one that had always dissected movie plots and found the hidden motives, was now their only weapon. They were in a mystery, and she would have to find the clues, no matter how dark they might be.
