…Tales of strange occurrences, of Kadja’s unsettling sensitivity, and of the house itself being ‘unlucky’ began to circulate. They spoke of seeing lights flicker in windows when no one was home, of hearing disembodied sounds emanating from the old Tudor, and of a general aura of disquiet that seemed to emanate from the property. They started to avoid visiting, their initial neighborly warmth replaced by a creeping fear, a primal instinct that warned them to stay away from the house on the hill. Kadja, sensing their apprehension, felt a pang of isolation, a familiar ache that had shadowed her for so long. Their new beginning was already being tinged with the old shadows.
