The unsatisfied princess

…Was it truly just boredom? Or was it something deeper, something that no amount of falconry or synchronized water ballet could ever truly satisfy? He looked out the window at the moonlit gardens, a perfect, manicured expanse of controlled beauty. He wondered, for the first time, if perfection was, in fact, the greatest prison of all. He would speak to her again, he decided. He would try to understand this restlessness that seemed to plague his virtuous, unsatisfied princess. He would endeavor to be a better father, a more attentive king, and perhaps, just perhaps, he would begin to see the world, and his daughter, through her eyes. The thought was unsettling, yet strangely… invigorating.
