…“You know,” he said, his voice raspy, “that armchair… it’s a pain in the ass to move. We should get rid of it.” I looked at the armchair, then back at him. The paranoia, the fear, the anger… it was still there, a low hum beneath the surface. But for now, there was also a quiet understanding, a shared exhaustion. We had weathered another storm. The fragile peace settled around us, a temporary truce in our ongoing war. We were still in it together, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, and in the ever-present shadow of imagined stalkers. The storm had passed, for now. But the sky was never truly clear for us.
