I would fight for the chance to sit here, in this ridiculously small room, and share a meal with Brenda again, without the looming threat of eviction or the shadow of a man built like a concrete bunker. I would fight to prove that even a clumsy, accidental fighter could, for a brief, glorious moment, stand his ground. The night before the big fight was over, and the morning, with all its terrifying, exhilarating uncertainty, was about to dawn.
