…When the music ended, I stood center stage, my chest heaving, a bead of sweat trickling down my temple. A wave of exhaustion washed over me, but it was a good exhaustion, a deep, satisfying weariness. I looked out at the judges, their faces impassive, and then I looked towards the wings, where Kelly stood, her eyes shining with pride. I hadn’t focused on the outcome. I had focused on the dance. And in that moment, as I took a deep, cleansing breath, I knew that I had already won. I had found my fire again, and it burned brighter than ever before. The tryouts were just the beginning.
