…Later that day, the air still thick with unspoken words, Eli found himself back in his dorm room, the silence deafening. He paced the floor, the weight of his choices pressing down on him. He’d lost Claire once, and the thought of losing her again, irrevocably this time, was more than he could bear. He looked out the window, the same sky Claire had gazed at on Conrad and Alicia’s wedding day. A desperate plan began to form in his mind, a reckless gamble born of regret and a gnawing sense of injustice. Would he fight for her? Or would he let the current of fate carry them further apart? Only time, and his own actions, would tell.
