…The villagers, a mix of relief and lingering fear on their faces, began to emerge from their homes, cautiously approaching the palisade. They looked at Lyra, a strange, almost reverent awe in their eyes. Then, they looked at Kael, the boy who had somehow conjured this warrior princess. A wave of responsibility, heavy and suffocating, washed over Kael. He glanced down at the artifact, then at Lyra, and finally at the faces of his people. He was no longer just Kael of Oakhaven. He was the Sunmoner. And the battlefield had just expanded far beyond the borders of his small, struggling settlement. The fight for survival had just become a fight for existence itself.
