…We had faced a little bit of conflict, a little bit of jealousy, and we had come out the other side, stronger and more understanding. James was a nice boy, and it was fun to have a crush, but he wasn't worth losing my best friend over. Katie was my forever, and that was a much bigger, much brighter thing. The talking dog movie was about to start, and for the first time that night, I felt truly ready to relax and enjoy it, with my best friend right there beside me, even if we were cocooned in our sleeping bags. The tears had dried, and the quiet hum of friendship filled the room.
