…“I’m really glad we talked, Katie,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. “Me too, Soph,” she replied, her voice equally soft. “Me too.” We drifted off to sleep that night, not with the secret anxiety that had tinged our sleepover before, but with the solid, comforting knowledge that our friendship was the real treasure. And whatever happened with James, we’d face it, side by side, as the best of friends. The load felt so much easier to carry when we were sharing it.
