…“Thanks, Katie,” I replied, my heart feeling full. “For being you, too.” As my mom’s car pulled up, I gave Katie a quick hug. It was a hug that said more than words could. It said we were still best friends. It said we’d figured things out. It said that even though crushes might come and go, true friendships, the real, deep ones, were forever. As I got into the car, I looked back at Katie waving from the porch, the sunlight glinting off her hair. The sleepover had been an adventure, a messy, complicated adventure, but it had ended with a sunrise, and with a friendship that felt brighter and stronger than ever before.
