…My breath hitched. “You… you like James too?” She nodded, slowly, her eyes downcast. “Yeah, Soph. I do.” The pillow fort suddenly felt a lot smaller. The fairy lights seemed to dim. The warmth that had filled the room just moments before was replaced by a strange, cold tension. My best friend. And James. The two most important people in my world, suddenly tangled up in a way I’d never imagined. The pizza, the movies, the laughter… it all felt like a distant memory. The sleepover, which had started out so perfectly, had just taken a very unexpected, and a little bit scary, turn.
