…Aris and Brody stumbled out of the lab, their eyes drawn to the horizon. A colossal plume of smoke and ash, dark and menacing, was beginning to rise from the plains, an unholy testament to the awakening of the sleeping giant. The ground beneath their feet heaved and buckled, and the air filled with the acrid stench of sulfur. The growing disturbance had reached its crescendo. The eruption had begun. The world was about to change, irrevocably.
