The Silence of Site 39

…Taking a deep breath, I stepped towards the newly opened passage, my flashlight beam cutting a hesitant swathe through the oppressive darkness. The hum seemed to intensify as we approached, a siren song of dread. My mind flashed back to the rotten branch, to Liam’s fall, to the endless cycle of my own perceived failures. This was my burden to bear, and I would carry it, no matter how heavy. Because they were counting on me. And for the first time, amidst the suffocating fear, a sliver of resolve hardened within me. I would not let them down again. I would find a way out of Site 39, or I would face whatever waited for us in the dark.
