…Then, the scraping sound stopped. The silence that followed was deafening. It was a pregnant silence, heavy with anticipation. The low hum of the facility seemed to fade, replaced by something else, something more insidious. A soft, rhythmic breathing, almost imperceptible, seemed to fill the air around us. It was shallow, ragged, and filled with a chilling malevolence. My blood ran cold. We weren't alone. We had never been alone. And whatever was here, it didn't want us to leave. The fear, a cold, cloying mist, wrapped itself around me, stealing my breath, my resolve. We were trapped. Trapped in the silence of Site 39.
