…A choice, stark and immediate, presented itself. I could cling to the crumbling edifice of my flat earth theories, to the familiar comfort of Silas’s dogma, or I could plunge into the terrifying abyss of what was unfolding before me, an abyss that promised no easy answers, only the stark, bewildering reality of a universe far grander and more terrifying than I could ever have conceived. The iridescent light pulsed again, and in that blinding flash, I knew. I had to run. I had to escape this unraveling reality, this cartographer’s grand deception. The edge of the world, it turned out, was not a place to be discovered, but a precipice from which to flee.
