…The silence of the chamber pressed in again, but this time, it felt less like an absence of sound and more like a held breath. The mystery of the Shadowed Scholars, of their true purpose, of the artifact’s ultimate nature, had deepened, not resolved. As I turned to leave the chamber, the soft glow of the artifact seemed to follow me, a silent question mark in the heart of the ancient darkness. The ritual was over, but the true shadow, I suspected, had just begun to lengthen.
