…He didn’t know where he was, or what the morning would bring. The fear was still a cold knot in his stomach, but it was mingled with something new, something fragile and bright: hope. He had faced the night, he had faced his fears, and he had run. And for the first time in a long time, the darkness didn’t feel quite so empty. He closed his eyes, the rough bark a pillow, the silence a lullaby, and drifted into a restless, but free, sleep.
