…"I will make you run laps until you throw up." "Worth it." I shook my head, but I couldn't quite suppress the smile tugging at my lips. The morning had been good. Simple. For a few hours, we had been just a group of people learning to fight, learning to trust each other. The world outside the academy walls still waited, hungry and patient. But for now, in this moment, we were okay. Corvus caught my eye from across the yard. He raised his water skin in a small salute. I returned it. Tomorrow, we would plan. We would prepare. We would face the Directorate and whatever else the world threw at us. But today, we trained. Today, we laughed. Today, we were a family. And that was enough.
