…She was there, holding a cup of coffee, looking out the window. She turned when she heard me, and her face lit up. “Good morning,” she said. “Good morning.” And in that moment, I knew that everything would be okay. The past was still there, a shadow in the corner of my mind, but it no longer controlled me. I was free. We were free. Together, we would build a new life, brick by brick, day by day. And the rabbit keychain would be there, a reminder of where we had come from, and a promise of where we were going. The end.
