Her long, auburn hair was a cascade of fire, her eyes the deep, clear blue of a summer sky, and her features were sculpted with an artistry that often drew hushed admiration. But today, her beauty felt like a fragile veil, and beneath it, something far stronger was beginning to stir. “That youngling is hurt,” Elara continued, taking a step forward, her gaze fixed on Silas. “And it’s afraid. You speak of harnessing its power, but you’ve only shown it cruelty.” Thomas scoffed. “Cruelty? It’s a wild creature, Elara. They’re dangerous. We’re protecting ourselves, and making a tidy
