…He stayed huddled in the crevice for a long time, the image of the colossal lizard burned into his mind. The fear hadn't lessened, but a new emotion had begun to surface, a dull ache of despair. He was no longer just scared; he was hopeless. He had no idea where he was, how to get back, or what other terrors this alien world held. The crimson dust continued to swirl, a silent, indifferent witness to his plight, burying him deeper in the vast, unforgiving Martian landscape. His small form, lost in the immensity of it all, was a tiny, fragile question mark against the endless, red horizon, his fate as uncertain as the swirling dust that now began to settle over him.
