…"I know," I replied, my voice steady. "But I think… I think it’s time we answered." And with that, I stepped through the shimmering gateway, leaving the red dust of Mars behind, and entering a realm of pure, unadulterated mystery. The light enveloped me, and for a moment, I was no longer Deagan, the lone explorer. I was just a point of consciousness, on the verge of understanding something truly, profoundly alien. The signal, no longer a distant hum, pulsed around me, a welcoming chorus. The adventure, it seemed, had only just begun.
