…He pulled back, his eyes glowing with a fierce satisfaction. “See?” he breathed, his voice rough with emotion. “We belong.” I forced a shaky smile, my heart still pounding a frantic rhythm against my ribs. “Perhaps,” I whispered, my gaze flickering to the front door, a sliver of hope in the overwhelming darkness. He was so close. So utterly convinced of his victory. And that, I knew, was his greatest weakness. The game had just begun.
