…"Choose," the man said. "Tonight. Or I choose for you." Nathan opened the door and stepped into the hallway. His mother was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, Daniel beside her. They both looked up at him, and for a moment, their faces seemed wrong—too smooth, too still, like reflections. Then Daniel smiled. "Goodnight, Nathan. I hope we can be friends." "Yeah," Nathan said. "Me too." He watched Daniel walk out the front door. His mother closed it behind him and turned to Nathan with a worried frown. "Is everything okay?" she asked. Nathan looked past her, at the mirror in the living room. His own reflection was smiling. "No," he said. "But I'm going to fix it."
