…Cole, more methodical, ran his fingers along a workbench cluttered with jars of mysterious screws and bolts. He was about to give up when his gaze fell upon something tucked away in a shadowy corner, behind an old paint can. It was long and slender, like a stick, but it wasn’t like any stick he’d ever seen. "Whoa," he breathed, reaching for it. It was smooth to the touch, impossibly smooth, and cool, like river stone. What made it truly remarkable, though, were its colors. It wasn't just one color, or two, but a swirling, shimmering blend of deep blues, vibrant greens, and fiery oranges, all interwoven like threads of pure light. As Cole turned it over in his hands
