…Night drifted in, turning gold to a soft glow. I gazed up at the palace, where King Daniel stood on his balcony, wings folded, fire in his eyes reflecting the burning world news written in golden flames. From below, he looked invincible. I knew better. Perfection only lasts until someone asks the right question. Was all this magic really enough to keep us safe? Or was something—someone—waiting for the right moment to show us the price of such brilliance? The stories everyone else told always ended with peace. My story was only beginning.
