She looked at Valerius, her Godfather, her protector, who now regarded her with an unreadable intensity. “Aurelia,” he said, his voice a low rumble, “you have a courage that belies your years. And a power you do not yet understand.” He took a slow step towards her, his gaze never leaving her face. “The time for hiding is drawing to a close. The first confrontation has begun.”
