…"Thank you for believing I could." Faye tugged on Linah's sleeve. "Can we go to the park?" "Sure." They walked outside, the afternoon stretching ahead of them. Jack fell into step beside Linah, their shoulders brushing as they walked. She didn't move away. "Hey," he said quietly. "Yeah?" "I think I'd like to stay here. For a while." She glanced at him, a smile playing at the corner of her mouth. "Good. Because I think the garden needs more weeding next week." He laughed, and the sound carried down the street, blending with the hum of the town. And for the first time in a long time, it felt like home.
