…The trail was laid, a rough-hewn scar across the face of the land. The stations, humble yet vital, dotted the landscape like hardy wildflowers. The horses, spirited and strong, stood ready in their corrals. The keepers, stoic and vigilant, watched the horizon. The stage was set. The enormous, almost unimaginable, undertaking was complete. Now, all that remained was for the first dispatch to be sent, for the lightning to truly begin its electrifying journey. The heart of the nation, it seemed, was about to beat a little faster.
