…Valerius the First stood in the eastern valley and breathed the open air for the first time in centuries, and his pale blue eyes — the eyes of the first morning, the eyes that had seen the world before the Kingdom drew its lines — turned westward, toward the Kingdom that had been built on his grave. "It is time," he said, "for the Kingdom to remember what it was built to forget." And the light that had been buried under the light poured westward, and the sky split wider, and the bells rang, and the world held its breath.
