…"For what?" Ben asked. "For whatever needs us." They walked back through the forest. This time, the paths were straight, the trees friendly. They reached the edge as the moon rose, full and silver. Home looked the same. Streetlights, mailboxes, the faint glow of television sets through windows. But nothing felt the same. Chloe looked back at the forest. Somewhere in there, a young tree was growing, waiting, carrying the magic of a thousand wishes. And she was its guardian. "Come on," she said. "I'll make hot chocolate." They walked down the quiet street together, four friends, carrying a secret the world would never know. But the forest remembered. And so would they. The End.
