…Elder Rowan paused, looking over his shoulder. "The truth about the tree. And about yourselves." Then he was gone, disappearing into thin air like morning mist. Ben exhaled slowly. "I was really hoping we were done with magical adventures." "Me too," Maya admitted. Chloe looked at the sky. The sun was high now, but she could feel the day slipping away, pulling them toward nightfall and whatever waited in the forest. "We go together," she said. "Like always." "Like always," Alex echoed. Ben sighed. "Fine. But I'm bringing snacks this time." They walked up Maya's driveway, the morning's triumph settling into something quieter, heavier. The adventure wasn't over. It was just beginning.
