She turned and walked away, disappearing around the corner before anyone could call after her. Ben stared at the fruit. "She just... left us with that?" "She left us with a choice," Maya said. Chloe closed the box. The pull was stronger now, insistent, like a voice calling her name from a great distance. "What do we do?" Alex asked. Chloe looked at her friends, then at the box in her hands, then at the horizon where the forest waited. "I think," she said, "we need to find the one who needs it most."
