Or press forward, and accept the price." Maya looked at Alex. He looked back, scared but determined. Ben was pale. Chloe's skepticism had crumbled into something like awe. "What price?" Maya asked. Elder Rowan's staff tapped the ground once, and the earth trembled. "Everything you thought you knew." The forest groaned around them, and the path behind them vanished, swallowed by undergrowth that hadn't been there a moment before.
