…The dark figure let out another grating laugh. “Welcome to eternity, little meddler. Now, get to work. The clock, as they say, is ticking. And you, my friend, can no longer afford to miss a single second.” With that, the two imposing figures began to fade, dissolving back into the oppressive atmosphere of the desolate world. I was left alone, standing in the ruins of what once might have been Earth, with a brand-new, permanent case of immortality and a cosmic-sized mess to clean up. The adventure, it seemed, had truly begun. And I had a sinking feeling it was going to be a very, very long one.
