The engines sputtered, then roared to life. The ship lurched forward, leaving the nebula behind. As they plunged into the darkness, Lyra took his hand. “Whatever happens, I am glad I met you.” He squeezed her hand, his heart aching. “Me too.” The stars grew dim, the light fading. The void opened before them, vast and hungry. And they flew into it, together, their hope a fragile flame in the infinite night. 357
