…Lyra took his hand. “We will go together.” He nodded, a sense of calm settling over him. The journey was not over. It had only taken a new shape. Outside, the stars were bright and steady. The light had vanished, but its echo remained in his mind. He knew where they were going, even if he did not know what they would find. “First light,” he said to Lyra. “We leave at first light.” She smiled, and in that smile he saw the same wonder he felt. The threads of the universe were still weaving, and they were part of the pattern. He turned back to the observatory, ready to prepare for the next leap into the unknown. The hook was set.
