…Angela’s breath hitched. Tears, this time of pure relief, streamed down her face. She leaned in, pressing a kiss to Aggie’s forehead. It was still warm, but no longer burning. “I’m here, Aggie,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m right here.” She looked towards the window, where the first rays of sunlight were beginning to pierce the clouds. The storm was over. And Aggie was getting better. She had returned the Infant Jesus, and perhaps, just perhaps, God had heard her plea. The weight of her secret, though still present, felt lighter, replaced by a dawning understanding of faith, of responsibility, and of a compassion that stretched far beyond her own small world.
