In the darkness of the earth, a flicker of consciousness returned. A breath, faint and ragged, filled my lungs. I was alive. Alive, and the memory of Melissa, of her song, of her sacrifice, burned brighter than ever. The weight of her death, the injustice of it all, settled upon me, not as a burden, but as a call to arms. The rebellion, a seed planted in the fertile ground of our suffering, was ready to bloom. And I, John, the reaper who had dared to defy, was its unlikely gardener.
