…The noose tightened around my neck. I looked out at the faces of my clan, their expressions a mixture of sorrow and resignation. And then, I felt it. The familiar tug. CID, his face a blur, was pulling my legs. Darkness. A heavy, suffocating blanket. I felt the rough earth being shoveled onto me, the weight of it pressing down, sealing me in. But the burning in my chest, the strange warmth from CID’s swill, it lingered. It was a faint ember in the all-consuming darkness. And in that darkness, a memory flickered – my father’s forbidden dance, a testament to a freedom I had never known, a freedom I was now destined to fight for.
