…They buried me. Another illegal burial, this time of a condemned man. But as the Martian dust settled, a spark ignited in the cold, dark earth. The swill, it had worked. It had slowed my heart, mimicked the stillness of death. I was not dead. Not yet. And as the whispers of rebellion, once faint murmurs, began to swell into a roar, I knew my purpose. The Colors’ blindness had been their undoing. Their complacency, their cruelty, had forged not a compliant slave, but a leader. The Reaping Song, once a cry of despair, would become our battle hymn. And I, John, the reaper who had lost everything, would rise from the dust to lead my people to freedom. The fight for Mars had just begun.
